Black Lives Matter

The black lives matter protests are far overdue. Racism has been around long before me and we are going to keep fighting until things are changed. A white man shoots up a school and is labeled as “mental illness”. Black people protest for equal rights and they are labeled as “thugs”.  This Isn’t just for George Floyd. This death caused a movement, not the reason for the protests to continue. There are protests all around the world for black lives matter and to stop the police brutality that is going around the world. It's not just for America, it's for all black lives. Breonna Taylor, Regis, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin so many more. This is for all black people who have lost their life because of the colour of their skin. The ones that weren’t recorded or heard of. Until their murders are behind bars and for the innocent black people who are behind bars gets out. Justice will be served. Police brutality is just ONE factor of systemic racism. Haven’t even touched; Education, Housing, Hiring Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Colorism and so much more.

This is for all black people who have been dealing with racism since the day they were born without realizing it. We are Influenced by black people, black culture, black music, black artists, we worship black athletes. We shouldn’t have to be fighting for others to see the problem here! I want black people to be able to walk down the street without the need of checking behind them all the time. As a female that’s a struggle. As a black female that’s an even bigger struggle. Who can they call for help?

Beauty standards. Goes for make-up brands who don’t have their skin tone. As little as the colour pencil “beige” being referred to as “skin colour” when black and brown are beautiful skin tones. They’ll get told that their music is “ghetto”, that they don’t talk right. Telling black people, they speak “white” because they speak proper. The whole system is wrong. Open your eyes! I truly never know what it feels like to be a walking target, but I see it happening every single day around the world. I want black people to feel comfortable in their skin. Feel safe walking around in the streets. Feel comfortable natural. Embrace your culture. Your features, your hair, your melatonin! You are black and beautiful! Fight until the rest of the world knows that.

“What to say when people deny of the reality of what’s happening right”

When people say:
“The police were wrong, but this is an overreaction.”

Police are wrong and continue to be as long as the systems supporting their racist workforce are in place and their squads exist

There is no overreaction to 400+ years of second-class citizenship and dehumanizing treatment.

Current peaceful attempts of protest are being largely ignored by the media

Kaepernick kneeled. Kendrick rapped. Parks sat. We told them to stop. There will never be an acceptable way to challenge a system.

Ask the question: ‘What are you defending right now?”

"Looting/destruction of property is never acceptable.”

We (white people) do not get to decide what are acceptable forms of grieving/resistance and what are not.

Major corporations being targeted by protestors are those that profit by taking money/labor from their communities and giving nothing back

Some of the looting/damage occurring within recent protests are actions from people not associated with the central movement

Ask the question: “Why do we allow destructive rioting in the same instances, like after college football game?

Ask the question: “Are you more enraged about property being damaged or loss of human life?”
